Sinoe County
Established in 1843 as one of Liberia’s three founding counties, Sinoe County is one of Liberia’s 15 counties, located in the Southeastern Region with its capital in Greenville.
Originally established as the Colony of Mississippi-in-Africa in 1835 by freed African American settlers from the Mississippi Delta under the auspices of the American Colonization Society, Sinoe is the third largest county by area and among the least densely populated in Liberia. The county is distinguished by its Atlantic coastline, the Sapo National Park, Liberia’s largest protected rainforest, and a diverse ethnic heritage spanning the Kru, Sapo, Grebo, Bassa, and Krahn peoples. According to the 2022 LISGIS Population and Housing Census, the county has a population of 151,149 distributed across 17 Administrative Districts and 3 Electoral Districts.
