Grand Bassa Administrative Districts
Grand Bassa County has 8 administrative districts — Neekreen, District 3 (Wee), District 4 (Kpaoegbarn), Commonwealth, District 2 (Glarkon), District 1 (Dianblae), St. John River City and Owensgrove.
Administrative districts are the primary units of local governance and development administration, each headed by a District Commissioner appointed by the President of Liberia. They are distinct from Electoral Districts, which are used for legislative representation. See more on District Types and District Leadership.
This dataset and district profile provides detailed information on population distribution, governance structure, electoral districts, natural resources, demographics, historical development, and district-level analysis for one of Liberia’s most historically significant counties. See the table below.
⚠ District Note: Even though, the the LISGIS 2008 listed Owensgrove as a district, the LISGIS 2022 Table B1 figure for Owensgrove District is not individually stated as a district or itemised in the available published breakdown. However, the total pupolation for the 7 named districts, do not add up to the total without the introduction of another jurisdiction. The name and figure shown below (~14,422) is derived by subtracting the sum of all other districts from the county total of 293,689. The 8 administrative districts reflect the October 2003 restructuring, when the previous 4-district system (Districts #1–4) was expanded into the current 9-unit structure (8 named districts + Commonwealth). Many legacy documents and data systems still use the old 4-district numbering.
