Grand Bassa County
Established in 1833 as one of Liberia’s three founding counties, Grand Bassa County is one of Liberia’s 15 counties, located in the South-Central Region with its capital in Buchanan.
Named after the Bassa-speaking people who form the majority of its population, Grand Bassa is among the oldest administrative divisions in Liberia and is distinguished by its Atlantic coastline, major river systems, agricultural and mineral resources, and its pivotal role in Liberian history.
