Grand Cape Mount County

 

Established in 1856 from Montserrado County, Grand Cape Mount County is one of Liberia’s 15 counties, located in the Northwestern Region with its capital in Robertsport.

Named after the striking green mountains overlooking the Atlantic coastline, a landscape first recorded by Portuguese navigator Pedro de Sintra in 1461, Grand Cape Mount is known for its Muslim-majority population, the scenic Lake Piso, the Gola Forest, rich iron ore and mineral deposits, and the cultural heritage of the Vai, Gola, and Mende peoples. According to the 2022 LISGIS Population and Housing Census, the county has a population of 178,867 distributed across 5 Administrative Districts and 3 Electoral Districts.
