Grand Gedeh County

 

Established in 1964 from the former Eastern Province, Grand Gedeh County is one of Liberia’s 15 counties, located in the Southeastern Region with its capital in Zwedru.

Named after the Gedeh chieftaincy of the Krahn-speaking people who form the overwhelming majority of its population, Grand Gedeh is Liberia’s largest county by area and is distinguished by its highland plateau terrain, vast tropical rainforest, iron ore reserves, and its eastern border with Côte d’Ivoire along the Cavalla River. According to the 2022 LISGIS Population and Housing Census, the county has a population of 216,692 distributed across 8 Administrative Districts and 3 Electoral Districts.
