Margibi County

Created in 1985 from Montserrado County, Margibi County is one of Liberia’s 15 counties, located in the Central Region with its capital in Kakata.

Its name derived from the Marshall and Gibi territories from which it was formed, Margibi is distinguished by its proximity to Monrovia, its role as home to Roberts International Airport, Liberia’s only international airport, and the Firestone Natural Rubber Company, one of the world’s largest rubber plantations. The county’s Bassa and Kpelle communities form the majority of its population. According to the 2022 LISGIS Population and Housing Census, the county has a population of 304,946 distributed across 5 Administrative Districts and 5 Electoral Districts.
