River Gee County
Created in 2000 from Grand Gedeh County, River Gee County is one of Liberia’s 15 counties, located in the Southeastern Region with its capital in Fish Town.
Named after the Gee River, whose name means “Leopard’s River” in the Grebo vernacular, River Gee is Liberia’s second youngest county and is home to a predominantly Grebo-speaking population, bordered by Grand Gedeh to the north, Côte d’Ivoire to the east, Sinoe to the west, and Maryland to the south. The county is known for its highland terrain, the Tienpo Mountain and Killepo Range, rich forest cover, and its three principal settlements of Fish Town, Kanweaken, and Webbo. According to the 2022 LISGIS Population and Housing Census, the county has a population of 124,653 distributed across 10 Administrative Districts and 3 Electoral Districts.
