Grand Kru County

 

Created in 1984 from parts of Sinoe and Maryland counties, Grand Kru County is one of Liberia’s 15 counties, located in the Southeastern Region with its capital in Barclayville.

Named after the Kru-speaking people of the Atlantic coast, Grand Kru spans the southern coastline of Liberia between Sinoe and Maryland and is distinguished by its vast unexploited forests, gold deposits, coastal plains and rolling hills, and the cultural heritage of the Grebo and Kru peoples who together account for the majority of its population. According to the 2022 LISGIS Population and Housing Census, the county has a population of 109,342 distributed across 19 Administrative Districts and 2 Electoral Districts.
